Lettering adaptation for translated book cover

Lettering adaptation for translated book cover

Role: Hand lettering & typographic adaptation
Client: Salamandra Graphic
Year: 2024

For the Spanish edition of Le Monde des Animaux Perdus, I created a hand-lettered adaptation of the original French title, preserving the expressive, organic style of the original design while ensuring typographic balance in the new language.

The challenge was to reinterpret the layout and rhythm of the original lettering, adjusting to the different word lengths and accents in Spanish. I also designed a simplified, single-line version of the title to be used on the book spine, maintaining legibility and consistency with the cover’s visual identity.

This adaptation involved:

  • Careful analysis of the original lettering style.

  • Full redrawing of the title in Spanish, respecting the hand-drawn look.

  • Compositional adjustments to fit the space within the tree shape on the cover.

  • A complementary spine version, optimized for vertical layout.
